Although I was quite apprehensive when I enrolled for this course I found the day to be very informative and I now feel I have a better understanding of how my camera works and what I can do to enhance the photos that I take. I think that now I have enough confidence to explore more the functions of my camera and experiement with my photos whereas prior to the workshop I was quite bewildered with the functions of my camera. The links which you have provided are also good as these have helped to reinforce what the workshop provided. I thouroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in which the workshop was conducted. Andy, the day I attended it poured down with rain. We had about an hour of practical then the rest was theory. I had the Panasonic FZ20, even though I didn't have a Canon or a Nikon SLR I managed to do most of the objectives. Everything was good, well laid out for someone that doesn't know much about the terminology and how to use the camera to its ability. Hi Andy, Your teaching style was great. I have used camera since I was 12 having to 'guess' shutter and timing. I studied at teachers college and developed my own blaack and white films. However, I believe, you have helped it all make much more sense and i am hoping to just be confident now to trust my judgement for future photos. i am a little worried about 'catching' my busy grandchildren in action, and hpe to practice in the park with moving people and little children on the playground. The workshop was pitched at the perfect level for me (I use a digital compact regularly, but had no experience with SLR cameras) - it didn't assume much prior knowledge at all, but at the same time was not too basic. Andy covered the more technical content (eg shutter speed, apertures) in a readily-accessible way. Is "in-depth introduction" an oxymoron? Well, in my opinion it best describes your course. As an amateur to the world of dSLR’s I found the experience entertaining, educational, even exciting, and with ever changing locations – good exercise to boot. Having the class size restricted to 10 there was always the opportunity for each to have one-on-one tutorial without distracting others with more knowledge. After this introduction I hope your obvious passion for photography is contagious. Tim Irwin |

I took your advice and spent a few hours reviewing what I'd learned and studying my (compact) camera manual. I was surprised at how many features and settings on my camera equal those of an SLR... only now, I understand them thanks to you! | Since I did the work shop I have taken my camera everywhere and even dragged myself out of bed at 5am a couple of times. Before Andy's workshop I fumbled my way around the camera and took shots hoping the exposure would work out. It was very valuable to have a professional like Andy who not only has the knowledge to share but seems to be a naturally good teacher and I found him very engaging. I was surprised to learn what his experience has taught him about how to get a person to behave naturally in front of the camera. Andy taught us how the camera sees a shot and now I understand how to achieve the image I have in mind. I finished the weekend being confident in using the different settings on my camera and now I'm really using the camera not just dabbling with it.

Just wanted to send a quick email to thank you for a great day out on your Day Photography Course. I had taken a similar course almost 2 years ago and had forgotten some of the content and was struggling with some of my photos. I now know what you mean when you say you know when you have taken a good photo. Attached is a photo I took of someone one the train on my way home. Even before taking the photo I knew what it would look like. Normally I don't like asking people if I could take a photo of them but I just had to. Thanks and I look forward to your other courses.
