Beginner's Photography Workshops in Sydney

This 3 hour workshop will show you how to use your digital camera using settings beyond straight automatic.

These classes are designed to be fun and informative. The small class size means plenty of personal attention. If you are a beginner I will show you what you need to know now. If you already know the basics I will help you take your photography to the next level.

Subjects covered include;

Understanding Exposure, how to prevent under and over exposure using the Histogram combined with Exposure Compensation. Take the guess work out of exposure control.

Setting White Balance for natural colour. You will learn how to match the camera's white balance to the colour of the prevailing light. You will also learn how to use WB creatively; turn day in to night, add warmth to a portrait.

Learn how to control movement through setting Shutter Speeds. We look at how to freeze fast moving subjects and how to create a creamy appearance in flowing water.

One of the most important creative controls available to a photographer is the ability to control Depth Of Field. We will explore using Apertures to throw distracting backgrounds out of focus (or keep interesting back in focus).

We will discuss important accessories including filters, lenshoods, flash and imaging software.

Client Comments

Fantastic class. Set right some old habits and de-mystified key elements of digital SLR photography. Money very well spent.

Andy conducting class

Andy, I thought the class was fantastic. You are a very good teacher. Years ago I had done a photography course at Evening College and I can honestly say I learnt more in the 3 hours with you than the 8 weeks I spent doing the evening course.

Sarah Ryan

Thank you so much for a great workshop. I really enjoyed it! I have had my camera for a year now and I have tried to play around with it by using the instructions in the manual, but you taught me so much more in 3 hours!

I particularly liked the balance of theory and practical. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get the best use out of their camera.

Excellent course. Very relaxed environment with good balance between theory and practice. Group size is not too large and allows for good interaction between Andy and the participants.

Mike Grehan

Great fun and relaxed photography course from a friendly and approachable person. Definitely a good course for someone who wants to kick start their photography skills.. Thanks Andy!

Andy, you are a skilled teacher. The good/bad photos you showed us to demonstrate your point drove the point home. You were well prepared (eg with cameras for those with none; spare memory cards; spare batteries etc). You used repetition to good effect. You were patient with slow learners.

Excellent course aimed at beginner level. Very easy to understand and put into practice. I am thrilled I am starting to use my camera on manual settings as I never believed it possible!! Thanks Andy
